I distinctly remember buying my first 'professional' camera. At 10 years old, about 15 months after first starting to save, I had my dad take me to the camera store. With an excited smile, I forked over a good 500 bucks to get the latest and the greatest SLR Nikon had to offer. It wasn't even digital! We loaded a roll of film and immediately headed over to the National Zoo in Washington DC to do a photo shoot of all the animals.
Looking back, I remember those first pictures turning out quite grainy, out-of-focus, and with distant subjects. Fortunately, I had saved just enough extra money to buy some books and start voraciously reading about photography. In the approximately 20 years between then and now, photography and I have had an on-off relationship. There were days when I didn't take a single photo, and there were days when I built a darkroom in my college apartment. But the relationship turned to full power 'on' when I met my wonderful loving husband who happened to come with an awesome Canon digital SLR. Not sure if it was his brooding masculinity and super sweet disposition or his camera that initially attracted me, but we soon got married and shortly thereafter I'd commandeered full use of the SLR. He bought another one so that he would have one to use, but I eventually commandeered that one too. He must not mind all that much as he bought me a two-camera holster for my birthday.
Now, taking pictures of a wide variety of subjects, constantly experimenting with light, and asking everyone I know to be a model - including my sweet baby girl (in a pic or two on the site) - are amongst my favorite activities. I hope you enjoy my photographs as much as I love taking them!
